Our Story

It all started one day at a local Food Truck Thursday. While enjoying the lively atmosphere, I found myself curious about how these food trucks were powered. As I walked around, I noticed nearly every truck relied on loud, gas-powered generators. Coming from a small engine mechanic background, I knew firsthand the issues with these machines — constant repairs, high maintenance needs, and the ongoing costs of gas, oil, and spark plugs. Just keeping them running day to day is a job in itself!

As fate would have it, my friend’s brand-new food truck experienced a generator failure. She was stressed, thinking her business would have to shut down for the day. That’s when a lightbulb went off.

For over a decade, our mobile repair trucks have used battery power — more recently switching to lithium iron phosphate batteries, or LiFePO4. These batteries are powerful, compact, lightweight, non-toxic, recyclable, and among the safest and most environmentally friendly options available. I thought: Why not use the same battery technology to power a food truck?

Our family business, The Mowerman, has spent over 35 years repairing mowers and small engine equipment on-site. Our mobile “garages on wheels” needed to power tools like air compressors. After years of dealing with noisy, unreliable gas compressors, my dad had enough. He transitioned to electric tools — and we developed a battery power system to keep everything running.

Back at the food trucks, the constant hum of generators was hard to ignore. I knew their problems all too well. So with longtime mechanic Chris by my side, we evaluated my friend’s truck. And we proved it could work. We gathered the materials, installed the system — and it ran flawlessly.

That’s how Alternative Power Group was born.

Our mission is simple: to provide cleaner, quieter, more sustainable power solutions for food trucks and other mobile businesses. Let’s build a greener future — by GOING, GOING... GREEN!
